Oh the weather outside is frightful...

Our first snowfall of the season in Southern Ontario, not a huge amount, but enough to make us all think a little bit about Christmas, Hanukkah or Diwali. Although very different events, they all represent the coming together of family and friends during a time of celebration, around a Christmas tree, Menorah or in the lighting of the clay lamps (diyas)

During a time of celebration isn't it wonderful to send or receive a card that surrounds that person with the warmth of their upcoming celebration. That is what the Christmas and winter holdiay season means to me.

During this monday madness blogg I will be highlighting a traditional slimline card that can be used as both a Christmas or a winter greeting card. I will also show you how you can step up your card to add that little "wow" factor when it's opened by a friend. Let's get started:

Today I am spotlighting this cute little stamp set "Penguin "Place".

Measurements: All measurements are in inches

Merry Merlot Cardstock (Base) 8.5 x 7, scored on the 7" side at 3.5

3x 1.75 x 3 1/8 (layers)

Basic White: 1 x 1.75 x 3 1/8 {layer}

1 x 7.75 x 3 (inside layer)

Peaceful Place Designer Paper - Gray and tiny silver snowflake paper 8 3/8 x 3 3/8

1 lazercut snowflake from "Wonderful Snowflakes" cut in half.

Instructions: this is a horizontal card

  1. Fold base in half using bone folder to sharpen the edges.

  2. Apply basic white inside layer to the inside of the card centering.

  3. Apply Peaceful Place layer to outside of the card centering.

  4. Stamp the tiny snowflakes from the Penguin Place Stamp set in Merry Merlot ink onto 2 of the Merry Merlot small layer pieces to create a tone on tone effect. Adhere 1/2 of snowflake to the right and left side respectively to each of these pieces as shown on card above. Adhere these two pieces directly onto the designer series paper on the left and right side, centered from edge and top and bottom. Add the final piece of unstamped merry merlot layer centered between the two end pieces.

  5. Taking the basic white small layer piece, stamp the sitting penguin on the upper portion of the piece centered on each side using memento black ink. Using the nose and foot pieces, stamp nose and feet directly onto the penguin as shown in pumpkin pie ink. Using the tiny bow tie, stamp directly onto the penguin in merry merlot ink to finish dressing him. If you wish, using a black fine marker or the slope stamp from the set, add a grounding slope under your penguin so he is not sitting in mid air. In merry merlot, stamp your greeting below the penguin and add 3 merry merlot stamped stars. Adhere this piece onto the center merry merlot cardstock, off centered using stampin dimensionals. You card is now finished as shown.

To step up your card you can comple15te the following as show:

On the outside of the card on the left and right side snowflake pieces and the tiny stars, add a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

In the inside of the card you can add a small grouping of trees on a slope using the stamp on stamp off method to create a dimensional grouping. Again, using either a black marker or the slope stamp, create a hilly slope. With garden green ink stamp on 1 tree and beside and to the lower left stamp onto the paper again without reinking. Reink and begin process again as show in above picture moving to the right from now on.

By adding just a few more steps we can add a few wow features to your card giving it a greater "pleasure impact" to the receiver.
